Candidate FAQs
• Explain the candidate services offered by Trail2Hire
The services offered to candidates are:
- upload and edit resumes
- edit credentials (text, graphics and video)
- search a job (by location, skill, experience, rates - for contract positions, etc
- select and apply for one or more jobs
- enable and disable access by hiring managers and
- track the status of the applied jobs, a key differentiator of the platform.
• What is the cost of using the above services?
All Trail2Hire services are offered FREE for candidates.
• Is registration required to search and apply for jobs?
Yes registration is required to search and apply for jobs. All registered users will have the ability to upload and modify your resume and credentials (text, graphics and video). Additionally candidates are allowed to enter key skills, used to track appropriate jobs in alignment with the specific skill-sets.
• What if the search results do not show anything?
Try broadening the search criteria using the available filters. Alternately, if there are too many results, try refining the search criteria with available filters.
• Is it possible to save the search criteria?
The ability to save searches is currently not supported.
• Is it possible to retrieve password
Click on the Forgot Password link on login tab and enter your email address; password will be mailed to the email address.
• Is it possible to track the status of the applied jobs?
A key differentiator of Trail2Hire is to keep the candidates updated on the status of the jobs they have applied. Upon logging, the dashboard displays ’My Job Stack’ containing a table of all applied jobs and its corresponding status.
• Is it possible to stop receiving email notifications of job status?
Log ontoTrail2hire using a username and password, click on ’Update Resume’ and under ‘Job Preferences’, select NO for the option ‘Receive Job Status via Email’. This will stop receiving all email alerts. However, emails will be sent each time changes are made to the account details to ensure integrity of data. By default all email alerts of job status is set to NO.
• Is it possible to get alerts when I am short-listed for a job?
Appropriate alerts are sent to relevant candidates based on the decision by hiring managers. Candidates will receive status of their applications for each job they have applied (short-listed, unsuccessful, interviews, etc). Alerts are received via email only if ‘Receive Job Status via Email’ is set to YES under the ‘Job Preferences’ section in Update Resume tab.
• Is it possible to disallow Companies to see my resume, upon landing in a job?
Yes it is possible to restrict companies to view resumes. Log onto Trail2hire using a username and password. In the candidate dashboard under ‘My Resume Status’ click on symbol next to ‘Employers View My Resume’ to enable or disable viewing by potential employers.
• Does the platform support Contract or Temporary jobs in addition to Permanent Jobs?
Yes this platform also supports the contract or temporary jobs.
• What are the different resume types supported?
Trail2Hire supports resumes in the standard text or Microsoft-Word files. Additionally, users can also submit graphics (e.g. scan and upload credentials like degree certificates) and video files to provide additional information that help hiring managers to make the right choice.
• Is it possible to have multiple versions of the resume?
Unfortunately, at this stage, support is available for only one version of the resume.
• Is it possible to update or modify the resume?
Log onto Trail2hire using a username and password and click on ‘Update Resume’. To update a new version of the resume simply upload a latest resume and click on submit button before logging off so that the new resume is saved on the database.
• What is the purpose of ‘Core Skills’ during signup?
Core or Key skills are used in search criteria to match open jobs with the candidates’ skill set. Hence it is essential the right skills are entered to match with the relevant jobs available on the database.
• What is ‘References’ and why it is required?
Many companies would like to gather historical information such as skills, ability, prior performance, etc about a candidate. The approach is to contact referees nominated by the candidate. During registration, it is mandatory to enter at least two referee names who will be contacted to gather additional information about the candidate background. Hiring managers could use this data to facilitate overall hiring decisions. Reference names can be changed, if required, using the ‘Update Resume’ tab.
• Is there a need to answer Behavioral Questions received via email?
Most hiring managers, in addition to the resume and reference checks, would like to ask open-ended questions relating to a real circumstance or a situation to better understand the candidates’ ability to make decisions. The candidate is expected to describe in detail a particular event, project, or experience dealt with the situation, and what the outcome was. The premise behind behavioral interviewing is that the most accurate predictor of future performance is, past performance in similar situations. Trail2Hire enables hiring managers to select one or more behavioral questions while posting a job. If a hiring manager decides to post behavioral questions, short-listed candidates are expected to respond to these questions by the due date assigned.
• What is the confidential nature of the information stored in Trail2Hire Database?
Refer to the Privacy Policy for more information on confidentiality aspects of the platform.
• Is it possible to restrict the current employer from viewing the resume?
Unfortunately, at this stage, no support is available for this feature. Work is in progress to add this feature.

• Explain the services offered to a company by Trail2Hire
Services currently offered to a company are:
- Add/Delete/Modify Hiring Managers
- Update a company profile
• What is the cost of using the above services?
During the on-going beta-test stage, all services are offered FREE. Any further changes to this approach will be notified to all companies.
• Is registration required for a company?
Yes, registration is mandatory for a company. Only upon registration Hiring Managers can be added. No registration is required by individual Hiring Managers.
• What is a company account?
Company account is the username and password submitted while registering as a company.
• Can a company start using the services straightaway upon registration?
No. Account activation is required to start using Trail2Hire platform by a company. A mail confirming the activation is sent to the email address, upon which the user can start adding hiring managers. Hiring Managers can use the Trail2Hire services immediately – meaning no need for hiring managers to register separately.
• Why is the company account not activated instantly?
At this juncture company account activation is manual. Future release will include automatic activation.
• Can a company add/remove hiring managers?
Yes, login and go to “Add Hiring Managers” tab to add/remove/modify hiring managers.
• Is there a limit on number of hiring managers that can be added?
At this juncture, no limit has been set. However, this could change in future releases.
• What is the difference between company account and hiring manager account?
The company account is the username and password submitted while registering with the platform as a company. This account is manually activated. A company account cannot post jobs or search for candidates. The hiring manager accounts are accounts created by the company account on behalf of the registering company. Hiring managers are managed (activation/deactivation) by the company account. At least one hiring manager account is required to post jobs and track candidates to selection.

• Explain the services offered to a hiring manager by Trail2Hire
The services offered to companies include:
- post jobs
- search candidates (by skill, location, availability, rates – for contractors, etc)
- short-list candidates
- get referral data
- post behavioral questions
- initiate interviews
- document interview outcome, and
- make hiring decisions in partnership with HR
• What is the cost of using the above services?
During the on-going beta-test stage, all services are offered FREE. Any further changes to this approach will be notified to all companies.
• Is registration required by a hiring manager to search for skills?
Individual hiring manager is not required to register to use Trail2Hire platform. Once a company registers and adds a hiring manager, the hiring manager can straight away login and start using all the above services.
• What is a hiring manager account?
Hiring manager account is the username and password added by a company who is allowed to post jobs and make hiring decisions.
• What is the difference between company account and hiring manager account?
The company account is the username and password submitted while registering with the platform as a company. This account is manually activated. A company account cannot post jobs or search for candidates. The hiring manager accounts are accounts created by the company account on behalf of the registering company. Hiring managers are managed (activation/deactivation) by the company account. At least one hiring manager account is required to post jobs and track candidates to selection.
• How many additional accounts (hiring managers’ account) can be created?
There is no defined limit on the number of hiring managers that can be created by company account but at least one hiring manager account is required to post jobs and track candidates to selection.
• Is registration required to post a job and search/track candidates?
Registration is required as a company. Next at least one hiring manager must be added to start posting jobs. Each hiring manager will have the ability to manage their own list of jobs, search for candidates and track them from application to selection process. The company account will not have the ability to post jobs.
• Is it possible to change/retrieve password
Click on the Forgot Password link on your login tab and enter your email address; the password will be mailed to the email address.
• Is it possible to modify the posted jobs?
Upon logging in to the platform, a hiring manager can modify a job via the ‘Modify Jobs’ tab
• How long the jobs are posted online
All jobs will be posted until closure. If a job doesn’t get filled within 6 months of posting, it will get automatically deleted.
• Is it required to delete the jobs after closing the job?
It is not required to go and delete jobs manually. Even after a job is closed, a hiring manager can view the job details for at least 3 months.
• What is sort/refine feature of the applied candidates?
Sort/Refine feature helps a hiring manager in short listing the resumes and the resumes available in the database, by sorting and refining the applications as per the criteria/requirements of the job posted. This is useful if the number of applied candidates is very large for a specific job.
• Is it possible to search additional candidates in the database in addition to the applied candidates?
Yes the sort/refine feature facilitates in getting the profiles of relevant candidates available in the database (even though if they have not applied) along with the applied candidates.
• Is it possible to receive email notifications of applications received?
At this juncture, there is no such feature.
• Is it possible to stop receiving applications beyond the due date?
For now, all applications will be made available to the hiring managers, including those applied beyond the due date. A future version will restrict candidates on applying for jobs beyond the due date.
• Is it possible to cancel the posted job without hiring, at any time?
Yes a job can be cancelled with out hiring at any point of time via the ‘Modify Jobs’ tab. Select the specific job whose status needs to be modified and then manually select the preferred option under the Job Status section.
• What is Reference Questions and is it possible to access reference data
Reference questions are automatically sent to the names listed as referees by the candidate during the sign-up process. The response from the referees will be made available to the hiring manager to further enable decision making on the candidate.
• What is Behavioral Questions and is it required for every job posted
Many hiring managers, as part of the hiring process, conduct behavioral interviews. Hence the platform provides a capability for a hiring manager to send pre-defined behavioral questions to short-listed candidates. The response from the candidates’ is made available to the hiring managers which could help further in identifying the right candidates for a face to face or a telephonic interview.
• Who notifies the short-listed candidates?
The short listed candidates are automatically notified by the application itself
• Is it possible to initiate interviews of the short-listed candidates?
Yes, every hiring manager can initiate interviews with short-listed candidates by selecting one or two potential dates. Email notification is automatically sent to candidates for acceptance or selection of a new preferred date and time to attend the interview. The hiring manager will be able to see the candidate’s preference.
• Is it possible to capture the interview outcome and refer to it later?
The interview results can be documented and stored for future reference by the hiring manager or HR.
• Is it possible to have an HR interview prior to an interview with the hiring manager?
At this juncture, HR interview can occur only after the hiring manager interview. The decisions made by the hiring manager on a specific candidate will be notified to HR for further action or next steps.
• What happens when a select decision is made for a candidate?
At this juncture, an email is sent to the company email-id requesting HR to initiate the next steps of the hiring process. The expectation is HR will connect with the candidate outside of the Trail2Hire platform and make a hiring decision based on other HR related considerations. |
